Have you ever felt like you were facing a problem as big as a mountain? If so, there is good news. You don’t need as much faith as there is mountain. The disciples faced a problem that defeated them and they asked Jesus why they failed. His reply is recorded in Matt. 17:20, “He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’” What did He mean? We can pass all the laws we wish but if we do not change the hearts and minds of people, nothing will change for the better. Only Jesus can truly change hearts and minds in a way that brings lasting change. With faith in Christ, even faith as small as a mustard seed, we can accomplish the impossible because God still works. Can you operate with an idea that may feel smaller than the requirements of the hour? Here’s the thing, the mountain’s growth potential is driven by human power. The seed of faith is unlimited in its growth potential because it is driven by the divine power of a God who is still intimately involved in the affairs of humanity. Faith may look smaller than the mountain but it is infinitely greater ... when it is utilized. Mountain-size problems are the perfect opportunity to try out mustard seed-size faith. This is raising the bar on our discipleship.
