Every trip requires a certain amount of necessary items peculiar to one’s destination. Headed to the beach? You’re going to need a swimsuit and sunscreen. Going overseas? You’ll need your passport and a language dictionary.

In the New Testament Gospel readings for October, Jesus provides a list of necessary items for the journey that leads us into God’s kingdom. Without these traits, we find ourselves ill-suited to recognize and understand that into which Jesus calls us. With them, we can be prepared for seeing, sensing, and celebrating the destination toward which we are moving – the kingdom of God.
