Kenneth Barwick, LMFT
Ken Barwick has been the Director of the Pastoral Counseling Service at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church since its establishment in 1986. He is an ordained elder in the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Ken graduated from the University of South Carolina (B.A. 1974) and Asbury Theological Seminary (M. Div. 1980) and the University of Kentucky with a Master in Social Work also in 1980. After graduate school, Ken received the necessary training and supervision for clinical membership with the American Association for Marriage and Family therapist and was licensed as a Marital and Family Therapist by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Board of Examiners for Counselors, Therapist, and Psycho-Edu Specialists in 1985. Donna is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been in practice since 1994. She enjoys working with relationship issues, spirituality, personal growth and grief and loss issues. Born in Florence,SC, she received her bachelor’s degree from Columbia College in 1985, and taught in SC public schools for five years. Her Master’s degree was earned from The Citadel in 1994 and she has thoroughly enjoyed her work in the counseling field. Donna is married to Joel Jones and they have two children. When not working or studying, Donna loves reading or enjoying scuba diving trips with her sister and daughter. Dr. Donald HillyardDon is a pastoral psychotherapist and professional parenting educator. He is a certified trainer of therapists and clergy in Prepare-Enrich marital and pre-marital counseling inventories. He is licensed in North Carolina, and New York State and is an applicant in South Carolina. Additionally, Don is a certified mental health counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors and is an ordained minister with the American Baptist Churches, USA. Don specializes in Bowenian Family Therapy, Adlerian Parenting Education, Trauma Therapy using EMDR, Albert Ellis REBT, and Gottman Marital Therapy. He comes to SC after serving the Lutheran Counseling Center of Metropolitan New York.
Elaine is the Office Manager for the Counseling Service, and contact person for billing and insurance questions. She is married to Ed and they have 3 children, Kevin, Karen and Gary, and 2 grandchildren, Reagan and Sydney. In her spare time she likes to read and spend time with family. Do you have to be a member of How much does counseling cost if I pay for it myself? Answer – The Counseling Service operates on a fee for service basis and the charge is $85.00 per session. In situations where persons are unable to pay the full fee, a reduced rate may be negotiated, drawing on a limited Subsidy Fund provided by Mt. Hebron United Methodist ChurchDo I have to have areferral to schedule an appointment? Answer – Referrals are not required. However, if your insurance requires a pre-certification you can call the company to have that authorized, or we can obtain it once you come for your appointment.How will I know if you accept my insurance? Answer – You can check with your insurance company either by phone or on their website. The counselors are providers for most major insurance companies and the majority of the Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) that work in this area of SC.My company offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and I would like to use those benefits before going to insurance. How do I get an authorization and set up an appointment using my EAP? Answer – Most HR departments can provide you with a contact phone number, or it may be a separate number listed on the back of your insurance card. EAPs do require that the client call for the authorization and not the provider.How far in advance are the appointments made? Answer – We try to schedule an appointment within 7 to 10 days if not sooner. In the case of an emergency we will do our best to have someone seen that day or the next.Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid? Answer - No, unfortunately we are not on the provider panels for Medicare & Medicaid. If one of those is your primary insurance and you have a secondary insurance, we will try to collect from your secondary insurance. However, we do ask that you pay the cost up front and we will reimburse you if we are able to collect.Do you accept credit or debit card payments Answer – No, only cash or checks.Can you prescribe medication? Answer – No, but we will work with your family doctor in getting the correct prescription to help you.
